By Marimekko

  • Description

Sukat Makkaralla is a new series of glasses and carafes designed by Anu Penttinen for Marimekko. These charming glasses and carafes are the latest members of the In Good Company tableware family, and they have attitude. The series is composed by one-coloured glasses and multicolour glasses and is completed by beautiful carafes of different colours. Sukat Makkaralla is a Finnish expression which means "socks rolled down". Like a person with his or her socks rolled down, Anu Penttinen's glasses and carafes are natural and liberated, self-assured individuals.

    Anu Penttinen

Anu Penttinen knows her glass, as it is her medium of choice as an artist and she has a studio at the Nuutajärvi Glass Village. She is a graduate of the University of Art and Design Helsinki, and her art reflects her interest in the phenomena and details of the urban environment. Maps, city streets, and transport - moving from place to place and location to location - have always fascinated her:
"I filter out my visual world from concrete places and human activity, which can end up as abstracts for my glass pieces." Her preference is for strong colours and clarity of form.
