"The birch, a tree that can be found all over Sweden, is my inspiration for the Björk collection. The expression in the woven structure comes from the black and white trunk of the birch and the leather represents the inside of the bark. The rug forms a beautiful flat textile surface in the home, as natural as stone or wood. To me the rugs are like poetry, like a quiet whisper in the room."
Lena Bergström has expanded her Björk collection with a small rug, and a stool, available in two sizes.
"The stool is a natural part of the Björk collection, just like the stumps in a birch forest. They are a piece of furniture that is light and soft in its expression."
The colour tones of Björk create a marbled effect through a warp of cotton intertwined with a weft in wool, known not only for its softness, but also for its built-in resistance to soiling thanks to its natural oils.
Björk Home bags are storage robust baskets handmade from wool. Lena Bergström's long experience in designing textiles and glass is highly apparent. Material and shape are so harmonious and show such a beautiful balance between fashion and the rag-mat's timeless contentment. Carefully chosen details accentuate the effect. The leather handle meets the wool with a couple of bold rivets. The black interiors lend weight and give the impression of a cast-iron vessel.

    Lena Bergström

Lena Bergström (born 1961) is a textiles and glass designer. After high school, Bergström started working as a decorator at Domus department store. She moved to Stockholm and started at Konstfack, the University college of art, crafts and design in Stockholm. After graduating in 1989, Bergström started working as a freelance designer. She got her breakthrough in 1992 with a textile collection for Ljungbergs. The success continued with an exhibition at the Swedish Pavilion at the Seville World Exhibition. In 1994 Bergström got employed by Swedish crystal manufacturer Orrefors, and she has been a member of their staff ever since then. For Orrefors, Bergström designed several prize-winning products such as the Havanna and Drop collections, the crystal vase Squeeze in 1997, the votive Puck in 1999. Besides her career as a glass designer, Bergström has also continued working with textiles for companies such as Ljungbergs, Designers Eye, SAAB, and Design House Stockholm. Bergström is represented at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, The Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg, the Cleveland Museum of Art in the United States, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Bergström's textile work is distinguished by its graphic qualities, while her glass and crystal designs are often soft and organic. In her own words, she likes soft glass and hard textiles. She also appreciates mistakes in the process; the vase Squeeze is a result of an accident that occurred in the glassworks while losing concentration at work - the result was a deformed, waving vase. Bergström has received numerous awards, including 12 Excellent Swedish Design; ELLE Decoration Design Award in UK 2002; Swedish ELLE Interiör Design Award 2003 & 2006. She was shortlisted for the Bombay Sapphire Prize both in 2002 and 2005.
