Description
A distinctive piece of furniture for its time, the Society Table makes a modern design statement that remains relevant to this day.
Its sense of timelessness can be attributed to Jacobsen’s simple and expressive design idiom, which has retained its vitality
throughout the decades since the table was commissioned as a one-off design for the American-Scandinavian Foundation’s office in New York.
The exceptional desk, manufactured in just a few copies after the initial presentation, has now been relaunched in a slightly updated version that harmoniously combines steel, solid wood, veneer, glass, and leather. The Society Table features a slim, leathercovered desktop nestled snugly and organically around a tubular metal frame. Slots at each corner expose the table legs – a design feature that, combined with a floating drawer unit, gives the table a lightweight feel.
The table can be equipped with an integrated desk lamp in brushed, stainless steel, as well as a wood and glass table shelf. All
these elements attest to Jacobsen’s ability to make the complex appear stunningly simple, and serve as archetypal examples of
the designer’s functionalist approach to the design process.
