Republic of Fritz Hansen Store
18th - 22nd of September
The Republic or Fritz Hansen store, in association with Chung Tyson architects and The Bartlett School of Architecture, are delighted to present the installation of OFF l CUT at this year’s London Design Festival.
OFF l CUT is an experimental, lightweight, deployable structure that explores the innovative re-use of Fritz Hansen’s high quality timber veneers and leather offcuts from their production facility in Denmark. Designed by Chung Tyson Architects and supported by The Bartell School of Architecture, OFF l CUT was initially inspired by a research trip at Fritz Hansen in Denmark.
Chung Tyson Architects explains the inspiration behind the structure:
“We were thinking about the show room space and how it would be displayed in the window, but also how it would interact with people and your furniture. The form naturally evolved from a screen to a 'freestanding space within a space' so to speak. Primarily it would encourage people to walk across or through it as well as provide a backdrop for furniture. In parallel it was important to retain the idea that it would be dry assembled from a simple kit of parts which are the ash strips and leather connectors.”
