Kristine Bjaadal

  • by Skandium
  • Oct 07, 2019

A graduate of Oslo National Academy of the Arts (where she has also worked as a tutor, examiner and designer in residence), Kristine Bjaadal is an Oslo-based product designer whose work combines the functional with the sculptural, often imbuing even the most commonplace everyday objects with near-poetic beauty. Her practice is driven by the desire to turn daily routine into rituals that can be appreciated. Since she set up her studio in 2010, Bjaadal has exhibited internationally and her work – especially her award-winning Underfull tablecloth, with its hidden, moisture-exposed pattern – has drawn widespread attention in the design press. In 2013, she was given an artist’s grant from Arts Council Norway and nominated for ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in the Bo Bedre Design Awards. She shares her studio space with fellow 100% Norway exhibitors Runa Klock, Sverre Uhnger and Silje Nesdal, and Hallgeir Homstvedt and Elementa are based in the same building.
