Graphic, sculptural and vivant. The married couple Setsu and Shinobu Ito are both architects and designers, which is relevant in describing their design.
Weather it is a silver teapot for Tiffany, a lamp, a desk accessory - or the famous Hanahana family for Swedese (wooden, sculptural coat stand, coat hanger and valet stand) - the Ito couple's work has certain energy to it.
After graduating in Japan, at Tama Art University (Shinobu) and at Tsukuba University (Setsu), they moved to Milan. Now they are working between Milan and Tokyo as consultants for design companies. From 1988 to 1995 Shinobu Ito worked in Japan for CBS Sony (Sony Music Entertainment), engaging in design and marketing activities. She is still also working as a graphic designer, while her husband Setsu Ito is also lecturer in Milan for example the Domus Academy and in Tokyo at both Tsukuba and Tama Art Universities. Some of their pieces are included in the permanent collection of the Triennale in Milan and they have both received various awards.
