Povl Vilhelm Wohlert (1920-2007) was a Danish architect who is most well known as the architect behind the 1957 Louisiana modern art museum in Humlebæk, north of Copenhagen, a project he spent the next 33 years developing as the museum grew. Wohlert graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1944. He worked for Sven Ivar Lind, Sven Markelius and Hakon Ahlberg in Stockholm 1946-1947. From 1949 he had his own office in Copenhagen together with Jørgen Bo, named Bo & Wohlert. Besides new, modern buildings, Bo & Wohlert was also responsible for the restoration of many important historical churches and royal palaces in Denmark. Wohlert was visiting professor at the University of California 1951-53, adviser to the Ford Foundation in India 1960, and adviser to UNESCO in Afghanistan 1974-1975, Yemen 1976, Morocco 1977 and Turkey 1984. Wohlert was a member of the Académie d'Architecture, Paris and held the Order of the Dannebrog, awarded by the Queen of Denmark.
