New York based textile design company Maharam has teamed up with the Danish furniture brand Republic of Fritz Hansen™ and textile design company Kvadrat for the European launch of Point by Paul Smith, a new upholstery textile designed in collaboration with the renowned British fashion designer.
To celebrate the launch of Point by Paul Smith, the textile will be upholstered on a selection of Fritz Hansen's classic design icons including the Egg™, Swan™ and Grand Prix™ by Arne Jacobsen and the PK22™ chair by Poul Kjærholm, as well as the Alphabet Sofa™ by Piero Lissoni.
Point by Paul Smith offers a balanced construction chosen for its clarity of colour. It is woven with dense, semi-lustrous rayon yarns in the warp and weft, secured by a fine nylon binder. These form a gridded structure reminiscent of needlepoint and traditional grospoint transport cloth.
All seven Point by Paul Smith patterns are built from a single square unit and feature an individual repeat in the length. Importantly, these repeats are designed to be cut randomly, ensuring every piece of furniture upholstered with Point will look unique.
In business for over 40 years Paul Smith had established himself as the pre-eminent British designer. Paul Smith has an ability to anticipate, and even spark off trends not only fashion but in the wider context of popular culture. He manages to transmit a genuine sense of humour and mischief mixed with his love of tradition and the classics. Today there are 14 different collections including; Paul Smith for men and women, Paul Smith Accessories and Paul Smith Shoes.
