Karen Bit Vejle at Skandium 2GO

Brompton Road
5th - 8th May 2016

For the first time in the UK we are delighted to exhibit, psaligraphy artist, Karen Bit Vejle. The piece “Twittering in the Royal Copenhagen Tree” will be featured in the V&A’s opening reception on the 4 May and exhibited at our Brompton road store as part of London Craft Week. Karen Bit Vejle will also hold a talk about the art of psaligraphy and the stories behind her work as part of the display at Skandium.
Contrary to almost everything else in the world today, psaligraphy is a slow art. It takes time to master, plan and perform it. Karen Bit Vejle’s form of expression, psaligraphy, literally means the art of drawing or painting with scissors. Karen Bit Vejle’s works are formed from large, continuous pieces of paper and cut with only a small pair of scissors. Every single scissor cut is carefully planned, as the slightest mistake can have disastrous consequences for the end result. Through her work, Bit tells magical stories with her scissors, where she often instils a degree of humour in her imagery as well as portraying the small joys of this world. Her works are captivating surprise packages, evoking both astonishment and inspiration.
Bit’s artistic work spans from the travelling exhibition Scissors for a Brush to commissioned work for renown international companies, such as Hermès, Georg Jensen and Skandium.
