Bla Station

Blå Station was born from a designer's desire to put into production furniture which he himself liked and which, to his mind, deserved a place in the market. Blå Station is a family business. We are located in what used to be a sewing factory in Åhus, on the southeast coast of Sweden where the ocean is just as restless as we are. When we moved in during the spring of 1986, we placed a few furniture prototypes in one of the corners of the building. And in the beginnig, before our production was up and running, we filled empty echoing rooms with art exhibits and jazz concerts. It was fun and the place became our “Station” – which we thought was a very fitting name. Because at a station, there´s always something going on – a constant flow of change. The second half of our name was given. Blå Station’s founder, furniture designer Börge Lindau, used the signature BLÅ on drawings – the B and the L being the initials of his first and last name and the Å representing Åhus where he had settled.

Getama

Getama is the very epitome of something authentically Danish. It is probably the most shining example imaginable of Danish Design. Getama was founded in 1899 in the North Jutland town of Gedsted, where a young, innovative joiner by the name of Carl Pedersen had the brilliant idea of using seaweed from the Limfjord – of which there was a plentiful supply – to make mattresses. Hence the name Gedsted Tang- og Madrasfabrik (Gedsted Seaweed and Mattress Factory).

Dimensions and materials have been thoughtfully updated to complement contemporary and sustainable living. Sibast

The story of Sibast Furniture is the story of a dedicated family business and Danish furniture enterprise which, since it was established more than a century ago, has raised the bar in efforts to deliver sublime craftsmanship and well-conceived design. It is also a story about wood, passion and four generations of targeted efforts to develop a classic collection where every single piece of furniture excels by virtue of its powerful integrity and extraordinarily high level of artisanal quality.

Ton

More than 150 years ago, the first pieces of bentwood furniture were created by craftsmen in Bystřice pod Hostýnem. The town with a strategic location, surrounded by beech woods, was chosen as a place suitable for another of Michael Thonet´s factories. His principles of bending wood were adopted by TON in 1953 after several changes of property rights and company names. Bystřice pod Hostýnem is the oldest place in the world where a traditional manufacturing technology is still used. Every single wood piece is unique. It needs different time for absorbing steam before bending and then different time for drying. The most frequently processed wood is beech as it shows the best characteristic features for this kind of technology. Although TON has implemented modern machinery to the manufacturing process; some operations done manually can never be substituted. It is only man who is capable of insetting wood full of saturated steam into a mold and securing it with a special metal plate preventing the bent wood from cracking. It is man who is trained for this procedure for several months and who apart from strength in his hands mainly uses his sense.
