Domus Chair Colour 2018

By Artek

  • Description

Designed in 1946 by Ilmari Tapiovaara, the Domus Chair has come to be known as “The Finn Chair.” A masterpiece of modern furniture design, the Domus Chair was created as part of a series of furniture for the Domus Academica student housing complex in Helsinki. Comfortable enough to allow sitting for long periods of time, and the characteristic short arms mean that the Domus Chair can be pulled close to a table, perfect for studying at a desk and dining,

With Artek Colour 2018, Artek dove into their archives and analysed the finishes they had used over the decades. Certain guiding motives became obvious: the use of dark stains on wooden surfaces as well as the application of strong signal reds. The Artek Colour 2018 collection builds upon these historic finds, introducing a powerful combination of a deep walnut stained birch and bright red lacquer.
