Mid century issue 09

  • Description

We’re delighted to bring you a shiny new issue for your collection – number 09, another cracker (she says humbly – I hope you’ll agree!). To mark his centenary year, we ask Paula Day, daughter of British design Great Robin Day, to share some personal insights into her father’s designs, and we take a look around two very different homes: a concrete tribute to American Modernism in Belgium, which just happens to house a rare collection of Eames furniture, and a thoughtfully refurbished 1963 split-level ‘chalet’ in London.

We visit textile designer Eleanor Pritchard at her fabulous studio and discuss, among other things, British craft tradition and her mid-century inspirations, and Catherine Ince, Curator of the much-anticipated Eames exhibition at the Barbican, gives her commentary on Ray Eames’ 1949 room-set. Author Lesley Jackson reveals the stories behind her own collection of British mid-century ceramics, and Dutch lighting dealers Béton Brut provide a Buyer’s Guide to an area that remains largely untapped with UK collectors.
