PK20™ Wicker chair

By Fritz Hansen

  • Description

The PK20™ is a comfortable and elegant lounge chair. PK20 rests on a flexible matt-chromed spring steel frame. The original idea was to use spare leather strips from the production of other leather furniture in order to optimize production. Due to the diversity of the leather strips, the idea was rejected and today, only the finest leather strips are used. The low back version of the PK20 is included in the permanent collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. PK20 is available in wicker and leather. The leather version also includes a leather headrest.

  • Designer
    Poul Kjærholm

Unlike most other Danish furniture designers of the 1950s, Kjærholm used stainless steel and aluminium as the basis for his designs often combined with leather or wicker for chairs and glass or slate for tables. Inspired by the modernist work of le Corbusier and Breuer, Kjærholm's designs are highly elegant with great attention to details.

His best work were made between the mid 1950s and late 1960s, yet the designs all have such integrity that they stand above any particular era. His most well known design is the PK22 easy chair which have been extensively used at the Copenhagen international airport Kastrup, a fitting place for an object which is truly international in its design. Poul Kjærholm became a professor at the Royal Art academy in Copenhagen in 1976.
