Made from unbleached cotton, this cushion cover features the Silkkikuikka pattern, which is printed in Helsinki. The cover has a concealed zipper on one side.
Their cushion covers are sewn using the whole width of the fabric, and therefore their appearance may vary slightly. Each item is unique.
This fabric was printed with natural indigo, a plant-based dye extracted from Finnish woad. The colour may fade a little during the first few washes and use. “I was dancing with brushes,” said Maija Isola.
In 1961, she spent many evenings and nights working in Marimekko’s print factory – painting in gentle, sweeping brushstrokes to the sway of music.
Meter upon meter of new patterns emerged. On one of those nights, Silkkikuikka (great crested grebe), a pattern of alluring rhythm and simplicity, saw daylight.
