Oiva Toikka's autumn additions to his Bird collection make a wonderful gift. The Kuukunen (Puffball) family has been bedecked in a new, bright red colour, while the pearl grey Hiplu, with gold lustre flakes, will give a table or decor a celebratory look. Both birds are available from October to December 2011.
The Cranberry colour is intensively sensitive as the arctic berry, which gets its transparent surface with the help of cold, sub-zero nights. The name of the colour also reflects the character of the glass as organic material, which sometimes behaves and reacts according to its own inherent rules.
The new colour is a manifestation of Iittala's continuous development efforts relating to glass colours and glass production technology. Cadmium is no longer used for red colour at the Iittala glass factory, which makes the colour more environmentally friendly in production process. The new recipe for red glass colour is reportedly unique in industrial production in the world, which shows that Iittala's colour development is at the cutting edge.
The cranberry shade will be seen in all Iittala's blown and pressed red glassware with Iittala own glass mass, such as the Aalto vase, Kastehelmi products, Kaasa fireplace, Kivi votives, and Birds by Toikka.
