Riihitie Plant Pot A

By Artek

£49.00

  • Description

Crafted in ceramic, this plant pot displays a curved, organic shape without corners and was originally created by Aino Aalto for the terrace of the home she and Alvar built on Helsinki’s Riihitie Road. Reinterpreted in three sizes for indoor use, the plant pot embodies the Aaltos’ belief that even the smallest details are worthy of our time and attention.
Although the plant pot featured in the Artek presentation at the Paris World Fair in 1937, it never went into serial production. The pot is handmade from ceramic, a material central to the Aalto’s building vocabulary.

    Aino Aalto

In 1924 Aino Marsio (1894-1949) went to work at architect Alvar Aalto's office. The two fell in love, married and began a long partnership. In 1932, Alvar Aalto, was beaten by his wife in a design competition. The winning entry, Aalto glasses, also won a gold medal at the Milan Triennale. These and other items of glassware designed by Aino Aalto are made for everyday use. Their simple and yet timeless design continues to be part of our life 80 years on. Aino Aalto went on to create the furniture company Artek in 1935 together with her husband Alvar Aalto, Nils-Gustav Hahl and Maire Gullichsen.
