Good food quality sets the base for a balanced life. Good food is like good, supportive interior and well planned cities, it is about carefully sourced and harvested materials which are produced through understanding and excellent executed craftsmanship. It sets the standards for quality in every day living. This is the essence of why we built Skandium and it is why we think, Jamies's Big Vision needs all the support we can bring together.
The Ant chairs donated by Fritz Hansen for this project and decorated by selected designers for Jamie's Big Vision are all on parade in the Fritz Hansen store which is run by Skandium. The variety of ideas used to decorate the chairs are highly versatile and very charming. Welcome and enjoy the chairs and place your bid.
Jamie's Big Vision
“The activities that sit underneath the Better Food Foundation are in the thick of provoking the conversation about how we feed and teach kids at school and at home. Everything we do is about improving lives through a better education and understanding of food, where it comes from and how it affects our bodies. Whether it's training unemployed young people to give them jobs and opportunities; campaigning for proper food in schools; teaching kids how to grow and cook food; or teaching adults who have missed out on those skills how to cook a meal from scratch, we want to show that making simple choices can make a massive difference. It’s about making people more streetwise about food and inspiring them to reconnect with it, regardless of their background or economic status. We want to give everyone the tools, skills and knowledge to make a lasting, positive impact on their lives.
We have a range of grassroots projects that people can take advantage of, and we’ve worked with kids as young as four through to people in their 80s. This is about raising awareness and individual responsibility, resuscitating dying food culture around the world and, ultimately, keeping cooking skills alive.” Jamie Oliver
The Big Chair Project
The BIG Chair Project is the brainchild of The Better Food Foundation, the charity founded by Jamie Oliver. Back in 2002, Jamie established a unique and pioneering restaurant group called Fifteen, that uses the magic of food to give young people a chance to have a better future. Ten years on, hundreds of apprentices have graduated from the programme, which trains unemployed youngsters to become professional chefs. With 2012 marking the 10th anniversary, it was time to do something a little celebratory to raise much-needed funds for the next 10 years. The Better Food Foundation has BIG ambitions for the next 10 years, and there's a lot to do and lots of money to be raised. There are three key fundraising events throughout 2012, all BIG in their own right.
Some of the creators represented are: Quentin Blake, the artist - Christopher Bailey, Burberry chief creative officer - Luvly Grub by Paul Smith - Julian Mac Donald, fashion designer Mathew Williamson, fashion designer - Jonathan Yeo, World of Interiors - Jo Sampson for Waterford – Superdy - and many, many more.
How does the Big Bid and Big Win work?
In a snapshot there are 20 artists as part of The BIG Chair Project. 16 auction lots have been created in what's known as the BIG BID. Each artist was given two Fritz Hansen ANT™ chairs: one for practice and one for the masterpiece. You'll notice that four of the artists decided to submit both chairs as part of their auction lot: Barnaby Purdy, Liberty, Nunzio Citro and Quentin Blake. As such the starting price of their auction lot isdoubled. As part of the 16 auction lots, one lucky winner will get their hands on a Fritz Hansen EGG™ chair and stool, designed by Jamie Oliver.
There's also the BIG WIN where six chairs have been allocated to an online lottery. By purchasing a £5 lottery ticket you'll be entered in a draw to win a chair of your choice, so there's something in The BIG Chair Project for everyone.
Be sure to read the FAQ's and terms and conditions so that you're super clear. And there's more information on the BIG BID and BIG WIN pages too. Good luck and thanks for supporting The BIG Chair Project.
