Costguard Dungeness Kent

Costguard Dungeness Kent

  • by Den S

The Former Coastguard Lookout at Dungeness, converted from its original function by the designers Johnson Naylor with furniture and products used by Skandium, is one of the country's most spectacularly located properties. Positioned in the middle of the renowned shingle beach at Dungeness, it is only a few short steps from the water. The panoramic views from the two-bedroom Tower are purely of the beach and sea, and double doors on the ground level open directly onto the shingle.

Johnson Naylor have retained the original 1950s structure and appearance of the Tower, but have done much to ensure that, inside, it is a warm and welcoming place to be. The quality of fittings, as is typical of Johnson Naylor's work, is high. Bateige Blue limestone floors, with underfloor heating, are found throughout, with a custom-built kitchen on the ground floor and Vola and Bette fittings in the bathroom.

Accommodation includes a ground-floor kitchen / dining room with doors directly onto a terrace and the beach, a bedroom / bathroom on the first floor, a living room on the second floor and another bedroom on the third. There are two balconies and a terrace. The property is surrounded by a large amount of its own unfenced land, and has an adjacent space for parking.

Situated close to RSPB Nature Reserve and the vast beaches at Camber Sands, The landscape at Dungeness is one of the most celebrated in Britain. It is one of the country's most protected areas (not only is it a Site of Special Scientific Interest but a National Nature Reserve, a Special Protection Area and a Special Area of Conservation) and has the largest area of open shingle in Europe (measuring 7.5 by 3.7 miles). It is renowned for its abundance of wildlife and for the beauty of the sea and skies. It also known for the large (now only partly used) power station that dominates one section of the skyline. Unsurprisingly, Dungeness has been a draw for numerous artists over the years, most famously the filmmaker Derek Jarman whose house and garden continues to attract numerous visitors to the area. Skandium is very proud to have contributed with our merchandise to this special project.
