Iittala spring summer 2019

Raami
Raami is a new dining collection by prolific English product designer, Jasper Morrison. When designing Raami – Finnish for ‘frame’ –, Morrison considered the role that objects play in creating an atmosphere. A good atmosphere at the table frames the moment and promotes our enjoyment of food and company. The 21-piece collection is available in a classic white ceramic and coloured glass.
The Teema range was designed by one of Iittala’s most well-loved design heroes, Kaj Franck, known as the “conscience of Finnish design” for his tireless pursuit of practical, democratic, and functional design solutions. His products remain some of the most successful in the history of modern design. Teema is now available in a new delicate colour palette, soft powder.

MEET THE DESIGNER: KAJ FRANCK
Trained as illustrator and textile designer, Franck (1911-1989) was employed in 1945 by the legendary Finnish glass works iittala but became design director of the large porcelain factory Arabia already in 1946. In 1950 he became design director of Nuutajärvi glass works. Franck revolutionised the dinnerware in Scandinavia with his radical but simple and utilitarian glass, plates and bowls which all could be mixed and matched. The Kilta (later Teema) series for Arabia was mass made, fired in the same kiln as the companies wash basins and toilet bowls. Until today, more than 25 million pieces have been sold.
