Inachus by Sanitov Studio

This beautiful vessel is currently moored at St Katherine Docks as part of the offical Danish Showcase for the Olympics. Named by 'Inachus' and designed by Sanitov Studio, this floating home is modern, innovative and sustainable, drawing on cutting-edge technologies whilst engaging with other essential disciplines such as biology, cultural studies and philosophy as they believe that architecture must never stand alone. Sanitov Studio is a design think tank developing sustainable designs and scenarios for an urbanised future and Inachus is the first outpost of their 'Urdaimonia' Project. This project also showcases furniture by Danish brand (and Skandium favourites) Republic of Fritz Hansen. The pieces featured on the boat includes such modern classics as the Egg™, Series 7™, PK22™  and PK25™ chairs designed by Arne Jacobsen and Poul  Kjærholm respectively.

In addition, Samsung's state of the art appliances and entertainment system compliment this intelligent and super-stylish home. Inachus is also one of only forty dwellings in the UK to carry Energy Level 5 status. Ultimately, Sanitov's amibition is to create a floating community of individually customised homes, based on this first Inachus. With time, they hope to become not only a beacon of 21st century design philosopy, but also one of the most sustainable homes in Lonon, setting a precedent of a new kind of urban living. NOTES Here's a video tour of Inachus. 'Urdaimonia' is a neologism, bringing together the Greek word 'Eudaimonia' which means good life and the city-spirit of the word ‘Urban’. Inachus will also feature as part of London Design Festival later this year. And should you find yourself down at St Katherine Docks before August 12th, be sure to visit Visit Denmark's Imagination event featuring such delights as Hans Christian Andersen's fairytales, Lego and of course, Vikings complete with their own ship and a  re-enactment of Beowulf. And if that's not enough to tempt you, there will be FREE hotdogs too! Hurrah! Images courtesy of Google and Sanitov Studio
