Helping her grandfather, a signmaker in Iceland, sparked Ragnheiður Ösp Sigurðardóttir’s creative journey from a young age.
"There was always a strong sense of DIY and making things happen. That mindset opened my eyes to the possibility of creating anything," she explains.
After studying at the Iceland Academy of Arts and Cranbrook Academy of Arts, Ragnheiður opened her own studio in Reykjavik. In 2011, while working on crocheted bear figures, she came up with the idea for the Knot cushion.
"I wanted to experiment with tying the crocheted tubes into knots. The idea of a large, soft knot intrigued me in a playful, pop-art way. I also like that at first glance, you're not quite sure what the cushion is, which makes you want to take a closer look."
