Born in Copenhagen in 1963, Hans Sandgren Jakobsen is noted for his unique attention to detail and an ability to take the ordinary and make it extraordinary.



Originally trained as a cabinet maker, Jakobsen then went on to study industrial design at The Danish Design School in Copenhagen. During this time he visited America to study the Shakers' craftsmanship. After graduating as an industrial designer he moved to Japan to work for COBO Design in Nagoya.



In 1991 he commenced work for legendary Danish designer Nanna Ditzel and began to make a name for himself. At the end of 1997 Jakobsen branched out on his own and has since completed projects for companies including VIA, Kohseki, Art Andersen & Copenhagen, Fritz Hansen, Frederica Furniture Werner, Askman Furniture and Light Years. Jakobsen has the ability to join functionality with a minimalistic completeness of form is one of his trademarks.



In his Radon series for Light Years, Jakobsen follows the principle that light gives life to space and furniture. Accordingly, it has been his goal to create an aesthetic experience in viewing the lamps and utilising the light they emit. He accomplishes this by limiting the number of details so the overall design stands out.
