iittala started as a glass factory in the small village of Iittala, Finland in 1881. Today iittala is not just famous for glass, but has created design icons in ceramic and metal. iittala became internationally renowned in the early 1950s with designs by Tapio Wirkkala and Timo Sarpaneva.
Best known are the Alvar Aalto vases and Aino Aalto glassware, Kaj Franck glassware and ceramics, Oiva Toikka mouth-blown Birds and Antonio Citterio kitchenware. New to the collection is the functional Tools kitchenware.
The cornerstones of iitala's design are timeless aesthetics, high quality and functionality. They believe people should have the right to expect that their design items stand the test of time and that Iittala items never go out of style.
In design, they focus on the essentials: high quality, multi-functional and aesthetically lasting products. What they design must carry the potential to become a future classic. iittala’s objects are made to be used, day in and day out, for generations to come.
