Description

Greta M. Grossman designed the iconic Gräshoppa Table Lamp in 1947 and with its sophisticated yet playful design, it is still as relevant today. The distinctive, elongated conical shade is beautifully combined with a tubular brass stand, a great example of Grossman’s whimsical design language, that is both organic and modern. The Gräshoppa Table Lamp by GUBI brings not only a perfect, functional addition to the desk but can also be used as a sophisticated light object in any room.

Grossman was highly influenced by European Modernism, which had been imported to the US by influencial architects, such as Walter Gropius (founder of the Bauhaus) and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Grossman, in turn, played a significant role in defining the aesthetic of mid-century Californian Modernism.

The iconic Gräshoppa lamp was first produced in 1947. The tubular steel tripod stand is tilted backward and the elongated aluminium conical shade is ball-jointed onto the arm; so the light can be directional, yet the glare is minimal. Both stand and shade are powder-coated.

Technical Info

The tubular brass stand is mounted on a brass base whilst the elongated conical steel shade is mounted with a moveable joint in solid brass, consequently the light can be directional, yet the glare is minimal. The shade is powder-coated and available in 4 colors: matt white, jet black, anthracite grey and blue-grey. Switch is integrated in the base.

Dimensions:
Lamp height: 41.2 cm
Lamp base: Ø 15.0 cm
Shade height: 19.7 cm
Shade diameter: Ø 14.4 cm

Cable length, exposed: Approx. 250 cm
