Hven armchair

By Skagerak

  • Description

The series consists of armchairs in three colours – one in untreated oak and two in coloured ash – and tables of solid oak in two lengths. In terms of design, Hven tells an impressive story of a minimalistic expression that balances quality, comfort and aesthetics very well. The armchairs carry a light expression – cut to the bone and highlighted by few subtle details such as the overlapping poles that forms the armrests and open up the space of the chair. The tables have soft, rounded edges with table tops from a piece of solid oak – easy to maintain and possible to grind down several times, which gives a remarkable durability. All the wood comes from FSC-certified forests, in which no more trees are cut down than the forest can reproduce, and where biodiversity and local communities are protected as well.

  • Designer
    Anton Björsing

Anton Björsing is a trained joiner, with the inherent will and properties of wood as his key professional focus. The more complex challenges of the design profession also appealed to the young Swede, however, and after additional training at the design school in Stockholm, his craft-based understanding of the material and the more problem-solving aspects of the design profession came together in a fruitful combination. Two aspects of the design profession, which form the strength of Anton Björsing’s ambition and work today, as he either immerses himself in the potential of the material or in concept development – from draft to product to consumer – typically cutting to the bone in an effort to arrive at a simple, expressive product.

‘I want to create products that people care about and don’t see as a utility object but as something that has value and isn’t just discarded after use, and which they want to preserve for a long-term relationship.’ The long-term perspective is a vital factor for the Swedish designer, who sees his curiosity, his knowledge of materials and his ability to take on a given challenge as the key elements in his practice. Björsing dreams of creating products that relate to real people’s real problems – ideally on a societal level. A worthwhile ambition indeed.
