Marie’s Yellow is a tribute to the woman behind Vipp’s founder. Her favourite colour yellow now dresses a limited-edition version of her husband’s iconic pedal bin.
"Holger, I need a waste bin for my salon. Can you make me one?"
These words mark the beginning of Vipp when Marie Axelsen asks her husband, Holger Nielsen, to craft a waste bin for her hairdressing salon in 1939. As a certified metal smith, Holger knows what a quality tool is and with this in mind he makes a bin for his wife. He names the bin Vipp, meaning 'tilt' in Danish.
“We have celebrated my father and his pedal bin incessantly at Vipp. And with good reason, since the company is built on his product. But it’s time to highlight the role that my mother played in this success story”, says Jette Egelund, daughter of Marie and Holger.
The Vipp bin was never intended to be sold as it was made on Marie’s order as a hands-free tool for her salon. However, customers in the salon found the pedal-controlled bin groundbreaking and practical and the request for more bins prompted Holger to start production on a larger scale.
“Without my mother’s entrepreneurial mindset and promotion of the bin in her hairdressing salon, Vipp would not be where it is today. She was a fashionable woman, ever stylish and often dressed in her favourite colour, yellow. So, it’s about time that we dedicate a Vipp collection to her – suitably dressed in yellow”, adds Jette Egelund.

Care instructions:
Stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned and polished with a microfibre cloth, glass cleaner or other non-abrasive and gentle cleaning agents. Lacquered surfaces should be cleaned with a moist cloth. Rubber parts should be cleaned with a moist cloth. Apply silicone spray for better finish. Vipp products with dark surfaces should be cleaned with a soft brush and, if stained, with a bit of water. Then wipe with dry cloth.
Warranty:
10-year warranty. The extended warranty for bins applies to products purchased in 2008 or later. The warranty assumes that the product has been properly used as described under 'Care Instructions', with reservations for normal wear and tear. A 2-year warranty applies to bins purchased before 2008.
